FAQ

Questions people ask

More questions people ask

Is this the same as physical therapy?

Not quite. It is a single hands-on session with Dr. Keith Lee or Dr. Vivian Huang, both Doctors of Physical Therapy, booked at a set price like any other session here. It is not an ongoing course of care. If you are not sure it is the right session for you, call the studio at (929) 666-1729 before you book.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book Advanced Sports Therapy online yourself. If you have a recent injury, surgery or a medical condition, tell your therapist at the start of the session.

The details

01

What Advanced Sports Therapy does that a sports massage does not

A sports massage works on muscle and the fascia around it. Advanced Sports Therapy also works on how the joint itself moves, which is why people book it when massage alone has not settled the problem. Because a physical therapist performs it, the session can include techniques a massage therapist does not use, starting with joint mobilization and manipulation. Keith and Vivian have more than a decade of combined experience as physical therapists.

02

Who should book this instead of a sports massage

  • Pain that keeps coming back in the same spot despite regular massage.
  • A joint that feels stuck, like a stiff low back, neck or shoulder.
  • A nagging running or lifting problem you want looked at by a physical therapist.
  • Several connected problem areas. The longer session gives time to work through them properly.
