Sports acupuncture in Astoria

Sports acupuncture, guided by how you move

Sports acupuncture here starts with a movement screen and tension mapping. Treatment then goes to the muscles, tendons and fascia your training overloads, picked by how you move as well as by where it hurts. Every sports acupuncture session at Recovery Mode is with Elizabeth Sharma, L.Ac., and it can include acupuncture, cupping and hands-on work.

  • A complement to sports massage when one area keeps tightening back up

FAQ

Sports acupuncture questions

More questions people ask

Does sports acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine. You may feel a brief pinch, or a dull ache as a needle settles into a tight muscle. Tell Elizabeth if anything feels sharp.

How is it different from regular acupuncture?

The approach starts from sport and movement. Treatment is guided by a movement screen and by the anatomy of the muscles and tendons involved in your pain, and it can be combined with cupping and hands-on work in the same session.

Will cupping leave marks?

If your session includes cupping, it can leave round marks where the cups sat. Light pink marks fade within minutes to an hour. Dark red marks fade over three days to a week, and can take up to two weeks over a more chronic problem area. With regular cupping, the marks usually get lighter over time.
